Day 21
107 miles today. Finally an uneventful day. Weather was perfect and tailwinds most of day. Very little elevation change again today. Other than a couple of flats it is hard to find negatives. Tomorrow will be a challenge as we will bike about 100 miles and put out our marker cone and drive to New Orleans. We will spend the night there and drive back to our cone in the morning on Friday. We will leave Sammy there and pick up Pia and Tom Lin who are flying in to spend a few days. Should be a fun night. Bourbon Street here we come. The Alpha Team goes out on the town. You probably thought all we did was ride to raise money for MS. Speaking of which, don’t be bashful about donating.
1. Today started off with hotel breakfast and then an unusual place for lunch. The indoor dining was closed (John did point out that it was windowless so perhaps that was for the best).
2. Most interesting thing we biked past was the very plentiful crayfish farms. Some of us locals call them craw daddies. Pretty incredible process. Or craw fish?
3. Saw some great scenery in the park we cycled through. There wasn’t much interest in swimming in the lake though.
4. New rider this week is Myron. Hope I have half his energy and determination at his age. A welcome addition.
5. More roadkill today than we normally see. Some animals hard to determine exactly what they were. You would think that traveling with vet Doctor Mike would help but he says he is off the clock.
6. Stopped at a store for some refreshments and were greeted by two great dogs. The one was the first skinny corgie I have ever seen. Doc did offer an assessment ( despite being off) and suggested that this is how they were meant to look.
7. A few flats today which gets us into mid twenties for the trip. Who would have imagined?
8. Healing up and didn’t scare any young children today (at least that I am aware of).
9. Do you know somebody with MS or someone who might want to donate? If so connect them to the blog. Much appreciated.
10. Zydeco music. Lots of it around here. My brother-in-law is a big fan but I have to tell you it’s not my thing. My music is somewhat appropriate down here though. I could have sworn I saw Billy Jo McCallister on a bridge today. Probably I biked too many miles and imagined it.
Big day tomorrow. Will get in our miles and then I will report in on the oysters.
