Day 2 - AM and PM updates

Day 2 AM

1. Yesterday’s horrible line from Mike “this climb goes for about 12 more miles. Some will be 13% grade”

2. Heat will start becoming a factor as we are in the desert

3. Saw the wall or fence yesterday as we went along border. Gives one perspective especially about how lucky we are

4. 100 again today! Let’s go!!

Day 2 PM Summary

Hot hot hot. No other way to describe.

One couple hour climb into headwind. Makes you appreciate the rest.

102 miles. Still on track

Jane and Reuben over 40.

The sand dunes looked like the Sahara desert. Amazing photo.

Rode past the chocolate mountains. Amazing chocolate colored mountain range

I usually like rollers. But into today’s headwind you were forced to peddle hard downhill or risk going backwards on the uphill

For lunch we stopped at an unusual place ( only place for miles). No running water so no bathrooms. Must be an unusual job interview to work there.

So much hay in the desert. All flood irrigated from the Colorado. I remember buying Indio hay here one year. It was fascinating. First you buy the hay when it is barely seed. Then I was asked if I wanted to insure the hay. Upon investigation that means they will cover the bales in the field with tarp in case by chance it rains! Crazy insurance.

Lastly we ate at Sizzler. My father would have been pleased.

Just about to Blythe. Still on track for Tempe Friday. 222 so far two days. Right on
