Day 3
Day 3 AM
Day three. Will be crossing over into Arizona today. More hot weather in store. It is becoming clear that the support van is a huge bonus. Grabbing ice and other fuel is essential. No matter how much fluid and electrolyte you consume your body still seems to be dehydrated.
Mike changed a couple tires on my mile last night. Five flats in two days was becoming challenging. Not sure I packed enough tubes for that pace! Carrying a miniature pump in my shirt and it has proven to be very useful. Thanks Sally for the gift!
Not lots of climbing today and Wickenberg is the target. Either way we will get our 100 miles in I hope. When we stop for the day we mark the spot with spray paint and a cone so we know where to start again in the morning. Wouldn’t want to cheat.
People have been so generous giving to the MS society. We all find it motivating and plan to thank everyone personally after the ride. Tell your friends!! (or click to go to our donate page >>>)
PM recap
So day three was more of the same. Very hot and lots of climbing into headwinds. Finished at 101 miles. Still on track to be in Tempe tomorrow night. The significance of that is it will get us to the end of map number 1. Mike purchased maps for across the country from a biking group. There are seven maps in total to go from San Diego to St Augustine. So Tempe gets us through number one and will feel good. Most of the maps we assume will take us either 4 or 5 days. Looking forward to having one in the rear view mirror.
Today I tried checking , like I would at home, which way the leaves were blowing to determine wind direction. Not much luck with cactus.
Crossed over into Arizona. Not much fanfare but we didn’t tell them who we were.
Lunch today was another odd stop. We are definitely stepping up though as they did have an outhouse.
Jane and Reuben still crushing it. Plus doing a great job as support team. Not sure how we do without them.
When I am struggling to keep up and Mike takes his phone out and starts shooting photos it makes me feel pretty mortal around Superman.
In Wickenberg Az for the night. Very cool. Right out of a western movie but with a paved road. Definitely worth a stop some time.
Big day for MS donations. Much thanks.
