Day 24
Great day for Team Alpha. 116 miles and we are deep into Alabama. Whole team working hard and raising money for MS. Couldn’t be prouder. Thanks to all.
1. Today we broke the Team Alpha record for lowest temperature. It was 29 degrees when we started out. Warmed up to mid 50s by midday. You pretty much had to wear all you could. Made for a difficult morning in addition to the ride itself. Can’t say I was disappointed when we called it a day at dusk. Full day.
2. Sweet Home Alabama. Rolled into the state to much fanfare and even better we will be in Florida sometime tomorrow. Great progress.
3. 534 miles here in five days of the restart of the trip. Four days left. Big day Sunday as we need another 100 plus.
4. The sunset as we packed up tonight was amazing. Red sky at night sailors delight.
5. Hotel in Gulfport served us breakfast. Lunch was at a nice deli in Alabama. Dinner was here on the coast and while simple it was tasty. Amazing how places on our travels are challenged for product. Same around the world.
6. Funny how some drivers have no patience for cyclists. In my head those are the people who never do anything even borderline challenging with their lives. Just my opinion.
7. Only one flat today. Don’t want to jinx but we have been much better off this second phase.
8. Roads a bit better in Alabama than they were in Mississippi. Mississippi also has the record for most trash thrown onto the side of the road (in my book). Can we blame parenting for that ridiculous behavior?
9. Finished up tonight checking into the motel and the customer in front of me turned and saw me and gasped, “There is a guy out here who just got beat up.” I quickly told him he should see the other guy. At another place today a gal saw us in our cycling clothiers and asked if we were a soccer team. ??
