Day 5
Day 5 AM
Is it day 5 already? Doesn’t seem possible. We head toward Globe Arizona today. A fair bit of climbing in some hot conditions. Hoping we get some favorable road conditions today. As of yet most of the shoulders have been pretty crappy. Bump bump bump bump is my new tune. And speaking of tunes yesterday we were on a famous road that had a song named after it. And I will admit that GL named that road badly as it didn’t give me that same feeling. (Not exactly wordle but a game is a game). First one who guesses will get big prize.
To get Mike's bike fixed yesterday offered a glimpse in 2022 world of doing business. After a couple of calls at 4:30 PM on a Friday night asking for a 10 minute derailer fix and several refusals (even after describing our situation and ride for MS) we drove to a store. Upon arriving we were met by a group of people in a bike shop that gets what successful business is all about. It’s about people not what you read in books or the time clock on the wall. Lots of lessons there.
So far fundraising has been good. Many of you reading have been terrifically generous. Share this link with your friends. Let’s together make a difference.
PM recap
Well that wraps up day 5. Lots happened. Most importantly we reached Globe, Arizona. In fact we checked out the hotel and washed our faces and slipped out for 10 miles more so that we keep ahead. Five days and over 500 miles. On track.
1. Crazy climb today. Seemed to never end even as we went through a tunnel in the mountain it still went up. Like to talk to the engineer who designed the climbing tunnel.
2. Had lunch in Superior Arizona at a place which claims to have the world’s smallest museum. True? Not sure and I didn’t visit. Now worlds largest museum? Would have to check that out.
3. Seeing the country this way and with a lot of time in the saddle got me thinking about crossing the country in a covered wagon. Can you imagine the constant bouncing and kids complaining and other challenges? I am not talking Donner Pass here but how strong were the people who accomplished that feat? And we complain when we run low on ice in the Alpha Van.
4. Stopped and asked a cyclist for directions today. Great gal training for Ironman. Think we have her doing some of Tommy’s races next year. Go Alpha.
5. Great progress today on MS fundraising. Thanks to all. Remember we will reach out personally after the ride. Meanwhile keep spreading the word.
6. Lots of response to the song trivia question. The next song title to guess is one that is quite relevant and speaks to a body position. (Hint: the band was the Dovells). Oldie but a goodie. Big reward for the first one with the title.
7. Support team staying strong. Alternating riding and supporting Jane and Ruben have been spectacular. Huge help getting us through the mountain tunnel with no vehicular incidents.
