Day 18
There is also a special guest post today on the blog. Click here to read it.
So we made it to Navasota, Texas. The end of map 4. We now start map 5 with 6 and 7 still left. About 1900 miles down and 1050 left.
Tommy got to town after the ride today. He will be with us for 4 days of riding. I have a feeling he will want to push the pace. The smart plan there is not to give him a map so he can’t venture too far out ahead. It will be nice to have another biker to pull though.
Those unfamiliar with cycling many times aren’t aware of how the peloton works. The leader knocks down the wind and the followers latch on (not literally) to his back wheel. About 20% easier to be pulled rather than pull. Mike is a giant as a lead man and has done the bulk of the heavy lifting on this trip. Perhaps Tommy will help with that. Tommy is a strong cyclist if a bit unorthodox.
We went through a town today called Warrenton, Texas. It appears they are preparing for a huge couple week long antique festival. Candidly I have never seen as many tents, free standing structures and buildings all with the same purpose. Lasted for several miles. Put that event in your calendar if you have any needs.
Lunch today was in a very small place in Independence, Texas. It was unusual but nicely run. Pretty cool considering it was the only option on the whole ride. Then I was treated to a birthday dinner by Jane. Tommy and Mike joined us and though it was a funky place it was fun and the entire restaurant sang for me. 64 years old today but it’s only a number. Plenty still left in the tank. Thanks to those who contributed to MS in honor of my birthday. Much appreciated.
So even though we have left Texas hill country this ride continues to go up and down. Can’t wait for a couple of days when we get to the Bayou.
My daughter Pia continues to help with this blog. Shout out to her!
